Arriving and getting into the city
Hiroshima Station is the main Sanyo Shinkansen gateway. The Peace Memorial Park area is reached by local transport or a longer walk; it is not directly outside the high-speed platforms. Follow current signs for tram and bus boarding locations.
A practical first day
Allow an unhurried visit to the Peace Memorial Park and museum. Keep another half day or day for Miyajima, which requires onward rail or other local transport and a ferry. Check tide times if seeing Itsukushima Shrine at a particular water level matters to you.
Where to go next by train
Shin-Osaka and Okayama lie east, and Hakata lies west. A direct Tokyo journey is possible on selected services, but compare its total travel time with your wider itinerary. Miyajima is an onward excursion, not a Shinkansen stop.
Local planning tip
Keep ferry and local-train times in your plan when returning for an evening Shinkansen. Those connections are not protected just because you hold a long-distance ticket.
Tickets, bags and your departure day
Check your date, exact station, train and passenger numbers before paying. A reserved seat is assigned during ticketing; a window or adjacent-seat request is not a confirmed seat. Keep your issued boarding instructions offline, arrive around 30 minutes early at an unfamiliar station, and check the departure display before joining a platform queue. Luggage storage and local transfers may need separate arrangements.
