Hakata is Fukuoka’s main high-speed rail station and the eastern terminus of the Kyushu Shinkansen.
Arriving and getting into the city
For Fukuoka city, book Hakata. Hakata Station connects Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen services with local JR trains and the subway. Tenjin is another major city district and needs a local transfer; it is not a Shinkansen station.
A practical first day
Explore the Hakata area before heading to Ohori Park or the Tenjin shopping district. Canal City and the riverside make an easy evening outing. Food stalls operate according to individual schedules and weather, so keep a nearby restaurant alternative.
Where to go next by train
Hiroshima and Shin-Osaka lie east along the Sanyo Shinkansen. Kumamoto and Kagoshima-Chuo lie south along the Kyushu Shinkansen. A direct connection depends on the train, and Tokyo–Hakata is a long journey even on a fast service.

Fukuoka Airport has separate domestic and international terminals. Include the correct terminal transfer when combining a train and flight.

Check your date, exact station, train and passenger numbers before paying. A reserved seat is assigned during ticketing; a window or adjacent-seat request is not a confirmed seat. Keep your issued boarding instructions offline, arrive around 30 minutes early at an unfamiliar station, and check the departure display before joining a platform queue.
