Haneda Airport’s main railway choices are Keikyu trains and Tokyo Monorail. Keikyu can connect you with Shinagawa and other destinations; the monorail connects with Hamamatsucho for onward JR travel. There is no Shinkansen platform inside the airport.
Confirm the terminal and railway station
Check the terminal on your flight booking and the station naming used by your chosen railway. Keikyu has a Terminal 3 station and a combined Terminal 1–2 station. The monorail serves terminal stations separately. Include the walk between the arrival area and the station, particularly if meeting someone or transferring between terminals. An airport arrival time is not the time you will be ready to board a train.
Keikyu for Shinagawa and through connections
Keikyu can be useful for Shinagawa, south Tokyo and some through services. Read the destination display and check whether a change is needed for your particular train. Services on the same platform can have different destinations. For a Tokaido Shinkansen journey to Kyoto or Osaka, compare a Keikyu connection to Shinagawa with the rest of your itinerary rather than travelling to Tokyo Station by default.
Tokyo Monorail via Hamamatsucho
The monorail reaches Hamamatsucho, where you can connect with JR services for other Tokyo districts. Include transfer walking time and the local train leg when comparing it with Keikyu. Check the current operator timetable, fare and any pass coverage. A nationwide JR Pass and a local transport product do not necessarily cover the same services, so verify the specific product before entering the gate.
Haneda to a Shinkansen at Shinagawa
At Shinagawa, follow the Tokaido Shinkansen signs after completing your Keikyu journey. Keep the local ticket or card and your separate Shinkansen boarding documents ready. Allow for the uncertainty of landing
Immigration, bags, terminal changes and flight delays can consume more time than the airport train ride itself. Avoid a tight fixed departure immediately after landing. Review change and missed-train conditions before buying an intercity ticket, and consider a later train if travelling with children or large bags. Check early and late travel
Train services have operating hours. For a late landing or early departure, check the actual date and terminal in an operator planner and compare available alternatives. On the return trip, allow the airline’s required check-in time in addition to rail and walking time.
