Travel time and train choice
Plan for about 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 20 minutes. This is an approximate guide across different service patterns, not a timetable or a guaranteed duration. This journey follows the Hokuriku Shinkansen. Kagayaki makes fewer stops and is all-reserved; Hakutaka serves more stations. Compare the actual departure, duration and seat availability rather than choosing only by train name.
Leaving Kanazawa
Kanazawa Station is the Hokuriku Shinkansen gateway. The historic districts and Kenrokuen garden are farther into the city; use local buses, a taxi or a planned walk. Allow time for finding the correct bus stop outside the station.
Arriving in Tokyo
Tokyo Station has two very different sides: Marunouchi faces the Imperial Palace area; Yaesu is convenient for many Tokaido Shinkansen entrances. Shinagawa is another useful Tokaido stop, particularly for south Tokyo. Check the station on your ticket before setting out from your hotel.
Which seat should you book?
Ordinary reserved seating is a practical choice for most trips. Green Car offers more space where available; GranClass is available only on selected lines and trains. Unreserved products, when offered, do not guarantee a seat and may have date-specific restrictions. Book the correct adult and child counts, then compare the total for your whole party. Requests for neighbouring, window or aisle seats remain subject to availability until issuance.
Luggage and connections
The Tokaido, Sanyo and Kyushu oversized-baggage seat rule should not be applied automatically to the Hokuriku line. Use the storage and size rules for the operator of your train. Keep luggage clear of doors and aisles and allow time to retrieve it before arrival.
