Arriving and getting into the city
Okayama Station is an interchange between the Sanyo Shinkansen and conventional routes into western Japan and Shikoku. Leave enough time to walk between platform levels, especially with luggage or children.
A practical first day
Korakuen garden and Okayama Castle form a natural paired visit. For a different outing, take a local train to Kurashiki and explore the historic canal district. Avoid scheduling both immediately before a tightly timed intercity connection.
Where to go next by train
Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima are on the Sanyo line. Trains across the Seto Ohashi bridge connect with Shikoku; those are conventional or limited-express services rather than a continuation of the Shinkansen.
Local planning tip
When heading to Shikoku, check the complete onward itinerary and ticket coverage. The high-speed ticket to Okayama alone does not cover the whole island journey.

Check your date, exact station, train and passenger numbers before paying. A reserved seat is assigned during ticketing; a window or adjacent-seat request is not a confirmed seat. Keep your issued boarding instructions offline, arrive around 30 minutes early at an unfamiliar station, and check the departure display before joining a platform queue. Luggage storage and local transfers may need separate arrangements.
